Information about training goat herd dogs

Dog training is more of an art than a science. There is a level of flexibility that must be put into your obedience training program that can make the most critical factor in a successful dog training program.

Numerous people think that a dog training program means bribing and begging their pooch to act like a little gentleman or lady. This is a fallacy. The puppy typically refuses to execute the action requested and is most likely to acquire a personality that is hard to live with.

If you find the right balance, this method is very effective. If you approach this with a heavy hand, you may make an enemy of your pooch, or a fearful animal at the least.

The most viable process for dog obedience training is a structured combination of positive reinforcement and timely correction. Trainers using this specific process will use praise and treats to introduce the puppy to the obedience training process. This is the stage that the pooch is taught the first commands such as sit and down, etc.

If the dog becomes disobedient and decides not to listen to commands, the pup will be taught that they may have to be corrected, generally by a chain or choker collar. The act of correction should be utilized sparingly and only if and when the pooch declines to respond to a command that the dog have already learned. this specific is important. Correcting an animal for a command that the puppy is not comfortable with only confuses them.

It is critical that you establish that you are the leader of your systems pack. Once you have taken on this specific role, your dog can be assured that he is being treated with kindness and fairness and by rules demonstrated by the leader. A good trainer will preserve that role as leader or risk loss of control of the puppys behavior.

Fairness and consistent training are the most important factors to good training. You as the trainer should endeavour to be consistent on a going basis. You should never dismiss a disobedient behavior at one time and correct the pooch for the equivalent behaviour at another occasion. This results in your puppys confusion. The best position is to produce a correction within a minute of the errant behavior, not long after the fact. A key point to remember, a dog learns by consistent repetition.

A really important part of the dog obedience training experience is to know the level of correction demanded. If a simple NO is administered and addresses the errant behaviour, then more correction should not be necessary. But then again, a serious offense like snapping at a house guest may deservedly take a full leash correction.

In summary, dog training is really about learning when and how to reprimand or correct your puppy. your ultimate obedience training aim is to gain the respect of your puppy and produce a well bred, friendly pooch.
